SWIMSAFER STAGE 2 

Fundamental Water Skills 

General skill development including unassisted step entry into water, sculling, feet first surface dives, personal water safety skills as well as water safety in aquatic environments. Goal is to achieve 25 metres of continuous swimming.


Entries & Exits 

1) Perform a step-in entry.

Sculling & Body Orientation 

1) Demonstrate sculling in an upright position for 10 seconds with arms only.
2) Demonstrate the ability to change direction on command.

Underwater skills 

1) Search for and recover an object in chest deep water depth.
2) Demonstrate a feet-first surface dive.

Movement / Swimming / Strokes Swim  

1) 25m forward movement — Any stroke.

Survival & Activity skills 

1) Dressed in swimwear, shorts and t-shirt swim 15m.
2) Demonstrate flotation survival technique for 1 minute.
3) Correctly fit a PFD, jump into the water and swim for 5 meters and climb out of deep water.

SwimSafer Stage 2 Knowledge Objective : 

Water safety rules in various aquatic environments.

1) Home Q: What are the dangers with water can be found in and around the home?
A: Buckets filled with water, washing machine, toilet and sinks. 

2) Pond or lake Q: What are the dangers in pond or lake?
A: Muddy bottom, unknown depth 

3) Beach Q: What are not allow at the beach?
A: Do not swim to far from shore and without supervision; 
Do not swim when the water condition is rough; 
Do not swim during bad weather; 
No jumping or diving into the water 

4 Out Boating Q: What should be wore when out boating?
A: Personal Floatation Device (PFD) 

5 Danger in water Q: What are the TWO (2) things you can do to alert someone when you are in trouble?
A: Try float on your back, relax and shout, wave for help.

6 Danger in Water Q: What should you do when you see another child having trouble in the water?
A: Shout for help and try to get an adult to help. Do not attempt to help on your own
